Spotify now lets users create podcast playlists and get recommendations using AI

Spotify is expanding its AI powered Prompted Playlist feature beyond music to include podcasts, while also making it available in more countries. The feature first launched for music earlier last year and lets users create playlists by typing natural language prompts. With podcasts now included, Premium users can generate personalized batches of episodes based on the topics, themes, or type of content they want to hear.

The recommendations are shaped by both the prompt and each user’s listening history. Spotify also says the feature takes current events and trending topics into account, which can influence the results. The company says this can help listeners discover new shows or explore specific subjects in more depth, while also resurfacing older episodes from a creator’s back catalog.

Prompted Playlist for podcasts is currently rolling out in beta for Spotify Premium users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, and Sweden. The company has not shared when it will expand to more countries or languages. It also remains unclear whether Spotify’s own podcasts could receive more visibility in these recommendations, though some kind of ad-based recommendation system would not be far fetched 🤷‍♂️

What do users gets? An illusion that they have control over the music they will listen? Thanks to a prompt, I'm not buying that I think.
