Google Gemini now lets users import memory, context, and chat history from other AI apps
Google is rolling out new tools for Gemini that allow users to import their memories, personal context, and chat history from other AI applications like ChatGPT and Claude. These switching features are designed to help users move to Gemini without losing their preferences, key information, or prior conversations.
This update introduces a memory import capability that transfers preferences, relationships, and personal context directly into Gemini. Once users import this data, Gemini recognizes and utilizes the same key facts previously shared with other applications, streamlining the setup process and avoiding the need to start from scratch.
Following the introduction of memory import, Google has detailed a clear migration workflow. Users can access settings in Gemini, utilize a suggested prompt to gather a summary of their preferences from another AI app, and copy that summary into Gemini. The platform analyzes and securely saves these details, ensuring immediate personalization in future chats.
In addition to memory import, Gemini now allows users to bring in their full chat history from other AI assistants. By uploading a ZIP file of past conversations, users can search or continue prior discussion threads within Gemini, enabling a seamless transition and preserving valuable context.
