Adobe debuts conversational AI edits in Photoshop and expands Firefly's image editor

Adobe has launched a conversational AI assistant in Photoshop, now available as a public beta on both web and mobile platforms. This feature enables users to edit photos by simply describing the changes they want. While editing, users may choose between fully automatic adjustments or step-by-step guidance, and can even request edits using voice commands from within the Photoshop mobile app.

Following this, Photoshop for web introduces AI Markup in public beta, a new tool within the contextual task bar. With AI Markup, users can draw directly on their images and specify prompts to control where AI-driven edits take place, further expanding control and precision in the creative process.

Building on these updates, Firefly's image editor now offers several new AI-powered tools within a single workspace. These include generative fill for adding or refining elements with context-aware results, generative remove for eliminating unwanted objects, and generative expand to adapt images to various sizes or aspect ratios. Additionally, generative upscale sharpens details and increases resolution, while background removal allows users to isolate subjects with one click.

Through April 9, paid subscribers to Photoshop on web and mobile have unlimited access to AI assistant generation. Users on the free version begin with 20 complimentary generations.
