Spotify debuts About the Song beta with swipeable trivia for Premium users

Spotify has introduced a new beta feature called About the Song that adds behind the scenes context for selected tracks. Available to Premium users, it shows swipeable story cards with information meant to explain a song’s craft and background.

Eligible users can find it in the Now Playing view by scrolling below the album art for supported tracks. The cards include trivia and background details pulled from third party sources, with text generated using machine learning, and Spotify cites sources on each card. Spotify has not disclosed which providers it uses, but the rollout follows its expanded Song Credits and SongDNA features and its 2025 acquisition of WhoSampled, which could help power parts of this song context and sampling related data.

At launch, About the Song is limited to Premium subscribers on Android and iOS in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia, and Spotify has not said when it will leave beta or whether it will expand to free users.
