Netflix introduces AI Discover, a new place for content recommendations based on your mood

Netflix is rolling out AI Discover, a new navigation tab on its TV application that uses artificial intelligence to help subscribers find their next favorite show or movie. The feature is initially being tested with a small group of U.S. members using Netflix in English on supported television devices. The new tab will be marked with a red gem icon and a “New” label in the top navigation bar, signaling Netflix's latest investment in solving the perennial problem of choice paralysis that comes with vast streaming libraries.

The centerpiece of AI Discover is its theme-based browsing system. Users can select from curated moods and situations: “Something Light”, “Scare Me”, “Family Movie Night”, or “Quick Watches”, each previewed with clips from relevant content. Once a theme is chosen, AI-generated recommendations appear, with options to narrow further or request “Something Different”. A standout feature is the “Tune Your Recommendations” button positioned next to Play and My List options, allowing viewers to accept suggestions or instruct Netflix not to show similar content again. The system learns from this feedback in real time, adapting future results within the AI Discover interface.

Netflix describes AI Discover as a “test kitchen” for discovery innovations, where user engagement and feedback will determine which features eventually integrate into the main Netflix experience. While the feature currently exists separately from core recommendation systems, which have long relied on thumbs-up ratings and My List activity, this new intelligence layer represents a shift toward more interactive, conversational-style content discovery. The rollout is expected to expand gradually over the coming weeks, though Netflix has not announced timelines for availability outside the United States or on other device types.
