AdGuard Mini for Mac 3.0 adds system-wide blocking

AdGuard Mini for Mac 3.0 moves its interface to WKWebView, which the company says reduces RAM and CPU use while making the app load faster.

The release also introduces experimental System-wide protection, which can block ads and trackers in apps beyond Safari for licensed users on macOS 26 or later. It uses Apple's system-level filtering API with Private Information Retrieval, though an unresolved Apple bug means it may not work for everyone, including on macOS 27.2.

The update also adds story-card hiding in the tray and basic VoiceOver support for headings and interactive controls.

This is interesting because wouldn't this eat into Adguard's own desktop macOS app profits? I pay for yearly licenses for it, but if this ends up working well then what's the point of that paid app? Seems to me like we'll end up with 2 tiers of system-wide blocking: this free version that gives less customization options, and maybe the paid version will continue, with blocking URLs all exposed so you can monitor exactly what is going on. Maybe this free one for average users and the paid for power users? Still, if this works well, I'd probably switch to the free version.
