Quad9 to end free DNS service in France on November 24, 2026

Quad9 says it will make its free recursive DNS and cyberprotection services unavailable to users in France from November 24, 2026, after a French court order required it to block resolution of specified domain names in a case brought by beIN.

The nonprofit says it cannot reliably identify French users without conflicting with its privacy model, while global blocking would apply the French order worldwide.

Quad9 says the court reduced the daily penalty from €580,000 to €1,000, and that about 20 related French lawsuits remain pending.
