Pi 1.0 brings native MCP support & Pi Durable for long-running, crash-resistant AI agents

Earendil has announced the general availability of Pi 1.0, a hardened minimal agent harness that has already attracted hundreds of thousands of weekly users worldwide. Alongside the stable release, the company launched an experimental package called Pi Durable designed for long-running, fault-tolerant AI agents capable of surviving crashes and supporting multi-user collaboration. The releases represent a maturation of Earendil's coding agent technology, which the company has developed through extensive community feedback and issue tracking over many months.

Pi 1.0 introduces several production-ready features including native Model Context Protocol (MCP) support, cache warming for Anthropic models, mid-conversation system message updates that maintain transcript awareness, and a new terminal user interface theme with full-screen mode enabled by default. The software follows Earendil's philosophy of minimalism and deliberate feature adoption, waiting until technologies prove themselves before integration rather than chasing every emerging trend. All components are MIT licensed, with code hosted at GitHub and documentation available at pi.dev. Installation is available via command-line on both Unix systems and Windows.

The experimental Pi Durable package extends Pi's capabilities for enterprise and production deployments where reliability is paramount. Unlike standard Pi, which runs locally on a user's machine within a terminal session, Pi Durable is engineered to survive process terminations, container redeployments, memory exhaustion events, and other catastrophic failures while maintaining conversation continuity. It enables multiple humans to steer the same agent simultaneously and supports infinitely long conversation histories. Available now as an experimental npm package, Pi Durable signals Earendil's intention to expand beyond single-user coding assistance into broader agentic application infrastructure. Both projects remain open source, reflecting the company's stated mission to craft software and protocols that strengthen human agency.
