Fastmail enhances its calendar with a new world clock feature for time zone coordination
Fastmail has rolled out what it describes as “a big update” to its calendar, headlined by a new world clock feature aimed at users who coordinate across time zones. In a post on the company's blog, Chief Product Officer Neil Jenkins said the release lets customers keep other people's local time visible while planning their day. Users can add locations in the settings; those clocks then appear in the desktop calendar sidebar beneath the mini calendar, and clicking one displays the entire calendar in that time zone. Fastmail notes that when viewing a calendar in another zone, the user's own time zone now stays on screen alongside it.
Day and week views gain additional hour columns for each saved time zone, so “9am for you is 5pm in London”, as the post puts it, with the current-time indicator running across all columns. Display behavior is configurable: columns can always show, appear only on hover or tap, or be hidden, and can be reordered by dragging, including onto the main column to switch the calendar's primary time zone. Event invitations also surface recipients' local times when participants are in a different zone but share the same Fastmail account, which the company frames as a safeguard against scheduling mistakes such as booking a 4pm Melbourne meeting that lands at 6am in London.
Beyond time zones, the update adds a right-click (or long-press) menu for events, gathering actions that were previously scattered, including .ics export, and consolidates events appearing on multiple calendars so they display only once. Fastmail says it has also optimized rendering for busy schedules, reducing background work when scrolling through dense months or loading recurring events.
