Anthropic introduces Cowork for Claude, enabling advanced AI-powered file tasks on macOS
Anthropic has launched Cowork, aiming to make advanced Claude workflows accessible to anyone, not just developers. With Cowork, users can select a folder on their computer for Claude to access, enabling the artificial intelligence system to read, edit, or create files. For example, it can reorganize downloads, draft reports from notes, or generate spreadsheets from screenshots.
Following this workflow expansion, Cowork allows Claude to execute tasks with increased autonomy. Instead of light conversational guidance, Claude makes its own plan, proceeds through multi-step processes, and keeps users informed as tasks progress. Sharing its technology base with Claude Code, Cowork is tailored to support a wider range of non-coding tasks.
Building on core integrations, Cowork enables the use of connectors and introduces initial skills for creating documents, presentations, and other file types. When paired with Claude in Chrome, it also manages web-based tasks requiring browser access. Addressing privacy, users must explicitly permit which folders and connectors Claude can view or modify. Cowork is presently available as a research preview for Claude Max subscribers using the macOS app.
