Vimeo to be acquired by Bending Spoons for $1.38B with AI feature focus
The video hosting platform Vimeo has entered an agreement with the European software company Bending Spoons to be acquired in a $1.38 billion deal that will take the platform private by the end of 2025. The acquisition has been unanimously approved by Vimeo's board but still requires shareholder consent, closing conditions, and regulatory approval.
Bending Spoons, which also owns Evernote, WeTransfer, Meetup, and Brightcove, plans to run Vimeo as a long-term business. The company says it will invest heavily in the US and other key markets, with a focus on improving performance, reliability, and expanding advanced features, including AI-powered tools for both creators and enterprise users.
However, it is well known that Bending Spoons' previous acquisitions have often been followed by significant restructuring. After purchasing Evernote and WeTransfer, the company implemented layoffs, limited free service tiers, shut down legacy applications, and moved operations to Europe, which raises questions about potential changes for Vimeo employees and users.

When will this disgusting fake AI forced trend end?
welp. worst news of the past week or so I guess. RIP vimeo.
It was already an Ai Video platform
I agree with the others. Better start your exodus from Vimeo now.
Oh Jesus better start archiving now.
They are the same company that enshitified Evernote and reduced wetransfer from 7 days to just 5 days.
Not a fan of Bending Spoons at all. When they bought evernote the price skyrocketed and I canceled a service I had been using half a decade.
