Luma AI launches Ray3 video model with HDR, sketch-based control & fast preview rendering
Luma AI has unveiled Ray3, its new generative video model capable of producing studio-quality HDR content. It supports 10, 12, and 16-bit color depths, exports in EXR for professional workflows, and can upconvert SDR videos to HDR for modernized output.
Ray3 introduces advanced reasoning, allowing the model to interpret images and text prompts, follow complex instructions, and critique its own drafts. This enables visual control through sketch-based input, where users can guide movements, objects, or camera framing directly on images instead of relying only on text.
The model also features a Draft Mode that delivers previews up to five times faster and at lower cost, which can then be upgraded to 4K HDR in a second pass. Visual fidelity has been enhanced across crowd rendering, lighting, reflections, motion blur, and character consistency. While it does not generate audio, Ray3 is available for free through Luma AI’s Dream Machine app.
