LinkedIn will now use your data for AI training & ad personalization, but you can opt out
LinkedIn has updated its terms of service regarding user data usage and sharing, with changes taking effect on November 3, 2025. In the European Union, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Hong Kong, LinkedIn will begin using user data such as profile information and public posts to train generative AI models that produce content. These updates specifically exclude private messages. This use of data for AI training was already in place for countries outside the aforementioned regions.
While users in these regions may be affected by the AI model training, they retain the ability to opt out of data use for this purpose at any time through their LinkedIn account settings. For users outside those jurisdictions, LinkedIn will, from the same date, start sharing additional data with Microsoft in order to offer more personalized advertising. This data may include LinkedIn profile details, user activity in feeds, and ad engagement metrics. Users can opt out of expanded data sharing with Microsoft via their settings as well.
All users are advised to review and update their LinkedIn privacy settings before November 3, 2025, if they wish to prevent their data from being used in these ways.

Oh, how incredibly generous of them to allow us to opt out. I was getting worried they'd just do it without telling us... oh, wait, that's the default. At least the "opt-out" button will surely be easy to find and won't reset itself after the next update, right?
“All users are advised to review and update their LinkedIn privacy settings before November 3, 2025, if they wish to prevent their data from being used in these ways.” Because apparently we trust corpos to be ethical and not collect the data anyway. 🙄
