Joplin 3.4 brings mobile rich text editor, enhanced publishing, and smaller desktop app
Joplin 3.4 for mobile and desktop delivers a substantial update to this open source note-taking application. The mobile app now features a rich text editor in beta, allowing users to view formatting, mathematical expressions, and images directly within notes. It is also now possible to publish notes straight from the mobile app by using the “Properties” menu. In addition, mobile users can view and restore previous versions of notes, enhancing recovery options.
Following these editor enhancements, the mobile app’s tag dialog has been redesigned to streamline the process of adding, removing, and creating new tags. Android users specifically benefit from improved silence detection in the voice typing feature, as well as a new custom glossary setting. Mobile note creation is further improved through the addition of a “Scan notebook” action in the “New note” menu.
Turning to the desktop platform, users gain more control over the Markdown editor with new settings to render headers, lists, and images directly in the editing view. The desktop application has also been optimized, reducing its size by around 33 percent for faster downloads and reduced storage use.
Terminal users will notice the introduction of folder expansion and collapse via the z key, along with new commands for publishing, unpublishing, and sharing notes. Joplin 3.4 also includes several bug fixes across all platforms, improving stability and usability.
