Claude can now create and edit files, including Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides

Anthropic has expanded Claude’s capabilities to include direct creation and editing of Excel spreadsheets, documents, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF files. Users can now instruct Claude to generate ready-to-use files both online and through the desktop app. This preview feature is currently available to Max, Team, and Enterprise plan users, with Pro plans expected to gain access in the coming weeks.

Building on its previous approach of offering only text responses or in-app artifacts, Claude now lets users describe their needs and upload relevant data to receive finished documents. For example, users can request polished outputs such as cleaned data sets, statistical analysis spreadsheets complete with charts, and concise written insights. Financial models with scenario analysis, project trackers with automated dashboards, and budget templates featuring variance calculations can all be produced, making use of working formulas and multi-sheet configurations.

Users can also upload PDF reports and receive PowerPoint slides automatically generated from their content. These automation features significantly reduce the requirement for programming expertise or advanced statistical skills, turning hours of manual effort into minutes of conversation with Claude.

Anthropic notes that because Claude gains internet access to create and analyze files, users should closely monitor chats to manage potential data risks.
