BetterZip 5.4 brings new file previews, Finder-style selection, macOS 26 support, and more
BetterZip 5.4 has been released more than two years after the previous update, providing several new features and enhancements for Mac users managing Zip and RAR archives. The update brings an updated Close File command: when closing a file, the window will remain open, and BetterZip will return to its initial state for faster workflow transitions.
Additionally, the built-in file browser now allows users to preview non-archive files, extending the app’s utility beyond archive formats. Quick Look preview benefits from automatic sorting of files by name, streamlining navigation when browsing archive contents.
Alongside these usability changes, users can now select files by clicking and dragging in the background of the file list, providing a selection experience consistent with Apple’s Finder. In terms of security and compatibility, the app ensures that the macOS quarantine flag is preserved not only for extracted executable files, but also for recursively extracted archives, maintaining expected macOS security behaviors.
BetterZip 5.4 has been tested for compatibility with the upcoming macOS 26 Tahoe release, with no issues so far. The update also includes eight bug fixes focused on usability and stability for macOS users.
