VS Code 1.103 brings GPT-5 to Copilot, chat checkpoints, Git worktrees, and more

Visual Studio Code 1.103 (July 2025) adds GPT-5 support for all paid GitHub Copilot plans, enabling advanced reasoning, coding, and chat directly in the editor. A new chat checkpoint system lets users restore previous session states, including workspace changes and chat history, with support for redoing actions after a restore.

The update also introduces experimental tool grouping to bypass the 128-tool limit per chat session, allowing the model to call grouped tools. The tool picker was rebuilt with the Quick Tree component for collapsible views, sticky scrolling, and better icon rendering. Users can now edit chat requests inline, track tasks via a new todo list at the top of agent chats, and monitor coding agent sessions from the sidebar.

Additional updates include Git worktree management, remote indexing for Azure DevOps repos, and Python shell integration for version 3.13 and above. Linux users benefit from a new GPG key for smoother package installs and the transition to Electron 37 with updated Chromium and Node.js versions.
