Threads is now testing long-form posts with formatting options for all users

Threads is testing a new 'text attachments' feature that lets users publish posts beyond the 500-character limit, moving slightly away from the traditional microblogging format and reducing the need to chain multiple posts together. Unlike X, where long-form posts require a paid plan, Threads is apparently making the feature available to a wider user base during testing.

Text attachments allow formatted blocks with italics, bold, and underlining. They appear in a gray box within the post, with longer content expandable through a 'Read more' button. For now, only plain text is supported, with no images, media, or links, though Meta may add these options based on user feedback.

Meta has confirmed the test but has not shared a release timeline. The feature is presented as a way to share extended thoughts, news excerpts, creative writing, and similar content with richer formatting.
