Spotify adds custom playlist mixes with song transitions for Premium users

Spotify has just announced a new Mix feature that lets Premium subscribers create custom transitions between songs in playlists. Currently in beta, it can be accessed by updating the Spotify app through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The Mix button appears at the top of playlists, between Add and Edit, and applies automatic transitions with presets like Fade, Rise, and Blend.

This new feature is positioned as a response to Apple Music’s recently announced AutoMix feature, which creates seamless transitions between different songs and gives a professional DJ-like feel in most cases, and will roll out to all iPhone users with iOS 26, although unlike Apple’s version, Spotify’s Mix allows direct customization. Users can adjust transitions manually with controls for volume, equalizer, and effects, while dual audio waveforms help fine-tune timing and sound. Custom transitions can also be saved in playlists.

To improve results, Spotify provides the key and beats-per-minute (BPM) details next to each track and recommends matching tempos and keys.
