Proxmox VE 9.0 launches with ZFS RAIDZ expansion, SDN Fabrics, and LVM snapshots
Proxmox Virtual Environment 9.0 has been relesed with key updates for enterprise virtualization, focusing on storage and networking. Based on Debian 13 “Trixie” with Linux kernel 6.14.8-2, it improves hardware compatibility, security, and performance, while updating core tools like QEMU 10.0.2, LXC 6.0.4, Ceph Squid 19.2.3, and ZFS 2.3.3. ZFS now allows adding devices to existing RAIDZ pools with minimal downtime, and thick-provisioned LVM shared storage gains snapshot support, particularly for Fibre Channel and iSCSI SANs. This snapshot system, which stores only changes from parent volumes, is also available for directory, NFS, and CIFS storage.
Networking enhancements include the new SDN Fabrics feature, simplifying routed network setup, supporting multi-path redundancy, automatic NIC failover, and spine-leaf architectures. It can be used for Ethernet VPN underlays or full-mesh Ceph networks and adds support for OpenFabric and OSPF routing protocols with straightforward configuration tools. High Availability clusters now support resource affinity rules, enabling precise workload placement to either reduce latency or increase fault tolerance.
The mobile interface has also been fully redesigned with the Proxmox widget toolkit and Yew framework, improving remote management from smartphones. Users can monitor services, control virtual guests, and change basic settings, while detailed upgrade paths ensure smooth migrations from Proxmox VE 8.4 or earlier.
