PeaZip 10.6 adds dynamic virtual mode, revamps browser, and improves archive pre-parsing
PeaZip 10.6 has been released as the latest version of this free and open source file archiver utility. This version introduces a dynamic virtual mode in its file and archive browser, significantly increasing performance when displaying numerous items. Building on this, the update improves the archive pre-parsing process and streamlines the process for showing or hiding hidden files. Settings management has been enhanced with the introduction of a search function, making configuration changes faster.
For non-Windows users, this version enables automatic detection of the RAR binary if present, and leverages an alternative 7z fork to add Brotli, Lizard, LZ4, LZ5, and Zstandard support for the .7Z format. This extends PeaZip’s capabilities for handling modern compression algorithms across platforms.
Following these platform enhancements, Cinnamon desktop users benefit from new Nemo file manager actions, which integrate PeaZip directly into context menus. On the backend, the release updates crucial components to 7z 25.01 and Pea 1.26, and replaces Zpaq with Zpaqfranz, maintaining full compatibility. The source code now compiles with Lazarus 4.2 while remaining compatible with older Lazarus 3.x and 2.x releases, maintaining flexibility for packagers and contributors.
