OpenAI's latest GPT-OSS free models are available on AWS for the first time
OpenAI's recently introduced open-weight model family, GPT-OSS, is now available on AWS for the first time, marking the first time any of the company's models are offered on Amazon's cloud platform. Users can access both GPT-OSS-120B and GPT-OSS-20B through Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker AI. OpenAI describes the models as open-weight and capable of reasoning on par with its proprietary o-series.
AWS reiterated its focus on supporting open-weight models as a core part of its AI strategy. Product director Atul Deo noted that AWS aims to be the best platform for running these models, including OpenAI’s, as part of its goal to deliver advanced AI capabilities globally.
The move also reshapes the relationship between OpenAI and its cloud partners, as Microsoft is no longer its exclusive provider but remains the primary one and offers the same models on Azure with Windows-optimized versions, while it is also worth noting that AWS continues its partnership with Anthropic, which trains Claude models on AWS infrastructure using Trainium chips and the Project Rainier supercluster.
