Password manager Passbolt 5.3 released with custom fields and performance improvements

The open source password manager for team, Passbolt 5.3, brings a major new capability with the introduction of custom fields in beta. Responding to ongoing community feedback, this feature enables users to attach flexible key–value pairs to password entries or create standalone custom information records. This enhancement is tailored for teams who need to include data that does not fit the standard username and password model.

Building on earlier platform improvements, this update substantially increases folder browsing speed. Organizations managing thousands of credentials will notice that loading folders and their contents now places less strain on both the API and client devices, leading to a smoother experience as teams work with large password collections.

Alongside these functional upgrades, Passbolt 5.3 addresses several issues reported by users. The fixes target email notification errors after upgrading, resolve database health check issues during initial setup, and enhance browser extension tasks such as group management dialogs and folder reload functions. The release is constructed atop the encrypted metadata framework introduced in the 5.x series, maintaining strong security foundations across all new features.
