MEGA launches new large file transfer service Transfer.it with no file size limit
MEGA has introduced Transfer.it, a new large file transfer alternative to WeTransfer with unlimited file sizes and number of files per transfer. The release follows recent concerns over WeTransfer’s potential use of user data for AI training, making Transfer.it a timely alternative.
As previously mentioned, Transfer.it supports unlimited file sizes and quantities per transfer, accommodating uploads of 100 gigabytes, 1 terabyte, or more. Its also worth noting that the service skips end-to-end encryption "to improve speed and compatibility across browsers", which can help avoid memory issues and simplify access for recipients. According to MEGA, files stay encrypted while stored and are only decrypted temporarily in server memory, with keys managed separately. However, this model may not meet the needs of users who require strict zero-access encryption.
Transfer.it supports direct downloads without requiring accounts from senders or recipients and allows sending files via email links. Users can also sign in with their MEGA account to manage transfers. The service is free until January 1, 2026, after which usage limits may apply.
