Sniffnet 1.4 brings PCAP file import, ARP protocol support, and improved performance
Sniffnet 1.4 has been released as the latest update of this open source software for monitoring Internet traffic. This version brings the notable addition of PCAP (Packet Capture) file import, enabling users to analyze stored network traffic captured with tools like tcpdump or Wireshark. Supporting PCAP files allows network administrators and analysts to inspect historical data, making Sniffnet compatible with established monitoring workflows and crucial for troubleshooting or forensics tasks.
Alongside this core update, protocol coverage has been expanded with support for the Address Resolution Protocol (ARP). The release also introduces a donut chart visualization, giving users a new way to review overall traffic statistics at a glance. To strengthen security and analysis, Sniffnet can now identify and tag unassigned or “bogon” IP addresses, highlighting potentially suspicious activity.
Following these enhancements, users will notice several interface improvements. New default themes based on accessibility-optimized color palettes are included, improving usability for a broader audience. Additionally, notifications now present more detailed information about each event, offering better insight as issues arise.
