Nexus Mods sold after 24 years; veteran staff take lead as founder steps back
Nexus Mods, one of the largest PC game mod repositories, has been sold after 24 years of independent operation. Founder Robin 'Dark0ne' Scott announced the transfer of ownership in a post, officially ending his direct stewardship since launching the site in 2001.
Scott explained that personal burnout and the overwhelming responsibility of running Nexus Mods were key factors behind his decision to step down. He clarified that the handover is a personal choice rather than a corporate acquisition or a covert agreement, aiming to reassure the community about the nature of the transition. While the identity of the new owner is not public, two long-standing staff members, Foledinho (Victor) and Rapsak (Marinus), will guide the platform's next development phase. Scott described both as committed to the site's core values and community-focused goals.
Despite stepping back from day-to-day management, Scott will remain a visible presence by engaging with the community through forums, Discord, and offering strategic guidance.
