ShareX 17.1.0 adds new Metadata tool, command-line options, and UI refinements
ShareX has released version 17.1.0, its first update since January, introducing several new features, with the headline addition being a metadata tool that allows users to view and strip non-essential metadata from media files. A dedicated hotkey has also been added for instant access to this tool.
There's also a new command-line arguments broaden ShareX’s automation capabilities. Users can now script tasks such as pinning images, uploading files, optical character recognition, video conversion, QR code reading, metadata management, and hash checking. FFmpeg has been upgraded to version 7.1, bringing improved compatibility and encoding support. H.265 video output now offers better compatibility with Apple devices.
Additionally, a notification sound now signals task completion in the hash checker tool. Pinned images can now be moved using arrow keys, and the main window features a scrollbar that matches the dark theme. The workflows menu includes icons for easier navigation, custom themes are now always enabled, and the DNS changer tool has been removed.
