PowerToys 0.91 brings major Command Palette updates and new keyboard options
Microsoft PowerToys 0.91 focuses on expanding the Command Palette module introduced in version 0.90, with no new utilities added. Users can now launch direct URLs via a fallback command in the WebSearch extension, and the global hotkey can be configured as a low-level keyboard hook for broader compatibility. Other enhancements include auto-selecting search text on open and integrated calculator logic from PowerToys Run v1 with improved fallback behavior and settings support.
Keyboard shortcuts for list items are back, and Command Palette now supports nested, filterable context menus with a search box for easier navigation. It can also search any file through its fallback mode, strengthening its function as a universal launcher. The Time and Date plugin adds custom format support, reordered settings, improved error messaging, and allows direct date/time queries without pre-selecting the extension.
Additional updates bring performance boosts via extension parallelization and lazy-loading, along with bug fixes for Advanced Paste OCR and UI issues. Accessibility and error feedback are improved throughout. Outside Command Palette, Registry Preview now supports pasting registry data without manual headers, and Color Picker gains Oklab and Oklch format support.
