GitLab 18.0 makes essential Duo AI features free for Premium and Ultimate users

GitLab 18.0 has been released and expands its feature set by including core GitLab Duo AI tools in the Premium and Ultimate plans at no additional cost. Following this update, all users on these tiers receive immediate access to GitLab Duo Code Suggestions and Duo Chat within their supported source code editors and integrated development environments (IDEs).

Duo Code Suggestions helps developers generate complete functions and code blocks from comments, delivers real-time code completions, and supports over 20 programming languages. It integrates seamlessly with most popular IDEs, streamlining the coding process.

Building on these productivity enhancements, Duo Chat offers capabilities such as explaining unfamiliar code, supporting code refactoring to improve quality and maintainability, generating comprehensive test cases to help catch bugs early, and fixing code issues directly within a developer’s workflow.

In response to user demand, GitLab Premium customers will also have the option to purchase Duo Enterprise, the full suite of GitLab’s AI offerings, without needing to upgrade to the Ultimate tier. This change increases access to advanced AI-driven functionality for a broader range of users.
