The latest WhatsApp update brings new chat reactions, event creation, channel tools & more

WhatsApp has introduced new features across chats, calls, and channels. Users can now use tappable reactions in chats, including the ability to react to other reactions, like adding a thumbs up. In group chats, the number of members currently online is displayed under the group name, giving users a better sense of group activity. For individual chats, a new event creation feature allows users to RSVP and pin events directly within the conversation. iPhone users benefit from the ability to scan and send documents via the app and can set WhatsApp as their default messaging and calling app.

Additionally, a dedicated calls tab has been introduced for managing calls more efficiently, allowing users to make calls, share call links, and manage call history. Participants can now be added to video calls directly from chat threads, with video calls supporting pinch to zoom, a feature currently exclusive to iPhones. WhatsApp has also enhanced its video call technology for improved connection stability.

Channel admins have new tools, including the ability to record and share short videos, generate QR codes linking to their channels, and access voice message transcripts in the Channels tab.
