Play 3.1 adds new Mac simulator, updated new code panel, and Xcode export
Play Design has unveiled version 3.1, featuring a new Mac Simulator that enables users to run and interact with Play prototypes directly on their desktops. This eliminates the need for a physical device and offers flexibility in displaying prototypes at any iPhone size or custom size. The Simulator supports opening multiple windows, switching between devices, and recording prototype videos.
A newly rebuilt Code Panel, currently in beta, enhances designer-developer handoff by generating code faster and more efficiently. It displays Play SDK implementations, SwiftUI code, and properties, simplifying code reference and integration into Xcode projects. The update introduces Variable Fonts support, allowing users to upload custom fonts with multiple variants in a single file. The Play to Xcode feature is now fully functional, enabling seamless export of designs directly into Xcode.
Users can now integrate external data by uploading JSON files, design for platforms like iPad, macOS, and watchOS with custom device sizes, and test them on the Mac Simulator. Other updates include clipboard copying, map location actions, easier Figma imports, and improved Play SDK export support. More enhancements are detailed in the official changelog.
