News Explorer 2.1 is now available, with Bluesky support, Shortcuts actions and more
News Explorer 2.1 is now available as a free update for Apple users, introducing support for Bluesky feeds, a feature requested after the release of version 2.0. Bluesky posts are displayed similarly to the official website, with automatic downloads of preceding posts and replies when a post is opened. Users can manage replies and reposts settings for each feed. Despite the popularity of Threads as a Twitter/X alternative, no integration for it has been added due to lack of demand.
The update also includes Apple Shortcuts actions for automating tasks with News Explorer data, such as extracting article data, exporting feeds, and opening articles through Shortcuts. Documentation for these actions is available in the app's Help section.
Additionally, users can now share selected article text and source links directly to a Readwise account via context and swipe menus on iOS, the standard share sheet, and the toolbar on macOS and iPadOS. A new long-press feature on the "Mark All as Read" button allows marking older articles as read. The update includes unspecified features and improvements, with more details in the change blog.
