Plex raises subscription prices up to 75% and locks remote streaming behind a paywall
Plex has announced a substantial increase in its subscription pricing, effective April 29th. The monthly Plex Pass fee will rise from $4.99 to $6.99, while the annual plan will see a significant 75% hike from $39.99 to $69.99, while the cost of a lifetime Plex Pass will more than double, increasing from $119.99 to $249.99. Additionally, remote streaming—the feature that lets you access your server from outside your home—now requires a Plex Pass, which was previously free. Users can still stream locally for free, but those without a subscription must purchase the Remote Watch Pass ($1.99/month or $19.99/year) to share content with others remotely.
Existing lifetime Plex Pass subscribers will not be affected by these price increases. However, both new and current monthly or annual subscribers will face the new rates after April 29th. Plex justifies these price adjustments as necessary for enhancing the personal media experience.
On a positive note, Plex is making local streaming free by removing the one-minute playback limitation on Android and iOS for home network streaming. Users who previously paid a one-time activation fee for mobile streaming will receive an extended trial of the Remote Watch Pass. This change will align with the official launch of Plex's revamped mobile experience, which was initially announced last year.

I purchased a lifetime pass a long time ago, and no longer use Plex. If I needed a product similar to this, I would use Jellyfin. However, I think they are a good "out of the box" solution for a lot of people who just want to watch their own content and not pay for fifty-billion subscriptions.
