Mullvad VPN brings its “multihop” feature to Android for increased privacy
Mullvad, a popular VPN service, has expanded its multihop feature to Android users, following its earlier introduction on iOS six months ago. This feature allows users to route their internet traffic through two servers instead of one, creating a more secure tunnel within a tunnel. By doing so, users can enhance their privacy and make their online activity more difficult to analyze.
The multihop setup involves traffic passing through an entry server and an exit server before reaching its destination. By choosing servers located in different jurisdictions or hosted by different providers, users can make it more challenging for anyone to trace their data back to them. However, users should be aware that this setup could potentially degrade network performance, depending on the server locations.
Once the feature is activated in the settings, users can select their preferred entry and exit server locations. This method of routing traffic through multiple jurisdictions increases privacy and security, as it requires adversaries to perform timing attacks across multiple locations to analyze online usage.
