WhatsApp introduces customizable themes and backgrounds for chats and channels

WhatsApp is expanding customization with new chat themes and backgrounds, letting users move beyond the traditional green theme. The update includes various themes that modify chat bubbles and backgrounds, plus 30 new wallpaper options. Users can also upload their own images for more personalization.

Customization can be applied universally or selectively, allowing users to set themes for all chats or specific conversations. These visual changes are user-specific and not visible to chat recipients. The new feature also extends to WhatsApp Channels, enabling personalization of subscribed content alongside regular chats.

The rollout has begun for Android and iOS users, with a limited release initially and a broader global rollout planned soon. On Android, the new themes can be accessed via the three-dot menu in a chat, while iOS users can find it by tapping the chat name.
