Microsoft to deprecate and remove the Location History feature in Windows

Microsoft has announced the deprecation of the Location History feature in Windows, which has been utilized by applications like Cortana to access the device's location history. This API was responsible for collecting and storing location data for the previous 24 hours, allowing apps with access to provide location-based services and recommendations without requesting new data.

With the removal of this feature, location data will no longer be stored locally, and related settings will be removed from the Privacy & Security Location page in the settings. However, Windows 11 will still be able to receive device location data to offer relevant information; the change solely affects the storage of this data.

Developers should note that applications using the Windows.Devices.Geolocation API need to migrate away from GetGeopositionHistoryAsync to ensure continued functionality, as core features might otherwise be impacted.
