Google unveils Android 16 beta 2 with enhanced camera controls & developer features
Google has launched Android 16 Beta 2 for Pixel devices enrolled in the Android Beta Program, presenting notable enhancements from Beta 1. This update introduces a hybrid auto-exposure mode, allowing users to merge manual and automatic exposure settings for better control over ISO and exposure time. Additionally, it offers fine color temperature adjustments for precise white balance modifications, improving image accuracy compared to Android 15.
Developers now have the ability to integrate intent actions for motion photos, enabling the capture of both still images and short videos with audio, with control over storage location. The update also supports UltraHDR photos in the HEIC format, with plans to expand to AVIF formatting. Developer-focused changes include the removal of Android's edge-to-edge opt-out for apps, adjustments to Android health permissions, and modifications to intent redirection.
This update aims to enhance media and graphics capabilities, improving performance for photography and visual content. Pixel 6 series and newer devices can enroll in the Android Beta Program to access this update and future betas, with Android 16 expected to be publicly released in Q2 2025.
