Google Gemini now offers file upload and analysis for free users

Google has expanded the capabilities of its Gemini software for free users by enabling the file upload and analyze feature, a tool previously exclusive to Gemini Advanced tier subscribers. This update allows free users to upload documents and spreadsheets to Gemini, facilitating the extraction of answers, summaries, and insights from their content.

The new feature can be accessed through a prompt labeled “Upload files to get quick summaries and actionable insights”, which appears in both the Android app and the web version. By selecting the “+” menu, users will notice that Files and Drive options have been added alongside existing Camera and Gallery options.

Free Gemini users can now directly upload files from the Google Drive app or web interface. This enhancement allows them to upload a document and either pose questions regarding its content or request a summary. While specific limitations for free users have not been disclosed, Gemini Advanced users are currently able to upload up to 10 files simultaneously, with each file being 100 MB or less.
