Amazon launches Alexa+, its nextgen personal assistant with advanced AI Agent capabilities

Amazon has introduced Alexa+, an AI-powered advanced version of its personal assistant Amazon Alexa, using generative AI through Amazon Bedrock. Alexa+ adapts to user preferences and integrates with existing tools for a more personalized experience, acting more as an AI agent capable of handling complex tasks using natural language than a simple AI chatbot. Its features include calendar management, document recall, and email summarization, while providing real-time information through partnerships with major news organizations.

Alexa+ is available on Echo devices, the Alexa app, and a completely new web interface. Users can set up voice-controlled Routines for automation, discover music easily, control smart home devices, and navigate Prime Video by actor or quote. It also integrates with Ring for security summaries and supports services like Uber and OpenTable for ride booking and reservations.

This new iteration incorporates Amazon’s Nova models and Anthropic’s model to dynamically select the best model for each task, enhancing natural and context-aware interactions. The Alexa AI Multi-Agent SDK allows businesses to integrate their AI agents with Alexa+, expanding the AI ecosystem. Priced at $19.99 per month, Alexa+ is also currently free for Amazon Prime members, with a U.S. rollout starting soon, initially supporting Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21 devices.
