Google launches Gemini 3 Flash as the new default model in Gemini app and AI search mode
Google has introduced Gemini 3 Flash as the new default model in the Gemini app and AI mode in Google Search, replacing Gemini 2.5 Flash worldwide. The model is based on Gemini 3 Pro, which was introduced only a few weeks ago, and is positioned as faster and more affordable. Google says Gemini 3 Flash significantly outperforms the previous Flash model and reaches comparable benchmark results to frontier models such as Gemini 3 Pro and GPT 5.2.
Gemini 3 Flash delivers strong academic and reasoning performance, surpassing Gemini 3 Pro on the MMMU Pro benchmark and comes close on Humanity’s Last Exam, scoring 33.7 percent without tool use. These gains arrive just six months after the prior Flash model and reflect notable improvements in advanced domain knowledge.
Google is also integrating its experimental vibe coding tool Google Opal into the Gemini app, allowing users to create "vibe-coded" mini apps through Gems using natural language, supported by a visual editor and a step based flow view. Gemini 3 Flash is available to developers through the Gemini API, Google AI Studio, Google Antigravity, Gemini CLI, Android Studio, and to enterprises via Vertex AI.
