Figma adds three new image editing tools to erase objects and expand images with AI

Figma has introduced three new AI image editing tools including Erase object, Isolate object, and Expand image. Erase object removes selected elements and fills the background automatically, Isolate object separates objects from the background so they can be edited or repositioned, and Expand image uses generative AI to create new parts of the image and extend scenes to new aspect ratios without distortion, working similarly to Photoshop’s Generative Fill or Canva's AI tools.

These tools work with the lasso tool for precise selections, and Figma has added a new image editing toolbar that places them alongside existing features such as "Remove background" or "Edit with prompt". The goal is to give users quick ways to handle simple edits without turning to external and more complex software like Photoshop.

The new tools are currently available in Figma’s main design environments, including Figma Design and Figma Draw, and require a Full Seat subscription. Figma plans to extend these AI capabilities to more sections of its platform next year.
