Drupal introduces Canvas, a visual builder for easier and more flexible website design
Drupal has introduced Canvas, a visual building experience designed to help site builders and content teams create websites more easily without losing the flexibility that defines Drupal. With Canvas, a wider range of users can build and adjust site layouts visually, reducing reliance on deep development expertise while retaining advanced customization options for developers.
Building on this update, Drupal Canvas is part of a community-driven effort to modernize how sites are developed. The interface enables users to arrange and adjust page components using drag-and-drop tools, supporting more independent work by non-developers and freeing up technical staff for deeper customization when needed.
Technically, Canvas uses a React-powered frontend integrated directly with Drupal's core APIs. This approach supports a more streamlined and interactive site-building workflow, combining the familiar flexibility of Drupal with up-to-date technology.
Among its core features, Canvas supports component-based visual page building, an in-browser drag-and-drop editor, code components for creating new building blocks, and a multisite page preview. The platform also introduces a multistep undo feature, allowing site builders to experiment and refine designs before publishing. These additions mark a significant step in making Drupal more accessible and efficient for a diverse developer and content creator community.
