DietPi 9.20 adds RustDesk Server, hardware updates, enhanced software, and bug fixes

DietPi 9.20 has been released, offering a range of new features and improvements for Raspberry Pi and other single board computers. This update introduces RustDesk Server, an open source remote access tool, as a self-hosted package to address security considerations commonly associated with public servers.

Following the core package expansion, device support has been improved for Orange Pi 5, 5 Max, and 5 Ultra users. New images now activate all USB-A and selected USB-C ports in host mode, ensuring greater hardware compatibility for USB devices. For Radxa ZERO 3, system images now come with the Linux 6.12 mainline long-term support kernel, and applying the DietPi update migrates systems from legacy kernels to this mainline version for increased stability.

Building on utility enhancements, DietPi-Backup now skips incompatible Access Control Lists when using Network File System backups, preventing errors from ACL mismatches. DietPi-Drive_Manager features clearer menus and improved visibility of key data, making storage management more transparent and user-friendly. Additionally, Portainer Business Edition instances are now correctly detected and updated, while entering a license key in Community Edition triggers an upgrade to Business Edition.

The release also sees file logging for aria2 disabled by default, relying on journal-based console logs, with the option for users to re-enable file-based logs. A new version of Allo GUI raises its minimum required PHP version to 7.4, patches dependency vulnerabilities, and is included as an automatic update. DietPi 9.20 also delivers numerous bug fixes for additional stability and usability improvements.
