Coursera to acquire Udemy in $2.5B merger focused on AI driven education
Coursera and Udemy have announced a merger valued at around $2.5 billion. Under the agreement, Coursera will acquire Udemy in an all stock transaction expected to close in the second half of next year, pending regulatory review and shareholder approval.
The deal follows a period of mixed signals for both companies. While each reported revenue growth in the third quarter of 2025, their share prices declined, reflecting ongoing investor uncertainty. The merged entity argues that combining their operations could support both short term returns and longer term growth.
A core focus of the merger is accelerating AI related product development as demand for AI focused education increases. Coursera has recently expanded its AI initiatives through an integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and a content partnership with Anthropic.
