Unreal Engine 5.7 adds Procedural Content Generation, Nanite Foliage and MetaHuman updates

Unreal Engine 5.7 arrives with a production ready Procedural Content Generation (PCG) framework that speeds up rule based world building, real time previews, and GPU driven workflows. PCG Editor Mode adds spline, paint, and volume tools linked to PCG Graphs, while the new Polygon2D data type expands how creators define areas and generate splines. The update also includes an in editor AI Assistant that helps navigate tools, generate code, and answer technical questions without leaving the workspace.

Foliage and environment creation see major upgrades with the experimental Procedural Vegetation Editor (PVE), which works with Nanite skeletal assemblies and the new Quixel Megaplants set. Nanite Foliage debuts as a high performance rendering system using Nanite Voxels, Assemblies, and Skinning to handle dense vegetation without noticeable LOD transitions. Substrate becomes production ready, offering a flexible material system for layered and blended surfaces, and MegaLights enters beta with support for far more dynamic lights and improved results for translucency, hair, and particle shadowing.

MetaHuman workflows expand with Linux and macOS plugin support, batch processing through Python or Blueprint, mesh conforming options, and real time facial capture from mobile devices. Animation tools gain a refactored Animation Mode, better retargeting, and updated sculpting features, while virtual production benefits from new prop constraints, broader Live Link broadcasting, and an overhauled Composure system. The release also introduces the Unreal Editor Home Panel for quick access to documentation, tutorials, community resources, and sample projects.
