Spotube 5.1 released with audio source plugins, NewPipe integration on desktop, and more

Spotube 5.1 is now available as the latest version of this cross-platform, extensible, open-source music streaming application. The latest update introduces community-driven audio-source plugin support, allowing users to add custom audio sources beyond official options like YouTube and Piped. Desktop platform users benefit from the addition of NewPipe as a supported source, further opening up flexible listening opportunities.

Following these source-related upgrades, the streaming model shifts to a single connection per stream, replacing the former chunked streaming method. This release also brings a more responsive download manager, as parallel chunked downloading boosts overall download speeds for users.

For those managing playlists, the update enables queue batch operations, streamlining queue adjustments. On the plugins' page, abilities can now be filtered and are displayed as badges, improving plugin discovery and selection. Additionally, the interface now shows the current plugin source and sets the only plugin as default when no plugin is selected. Spotube 5.1 also includes various other enhancements and general bug fixes to further refine the user experience.
