Perplexity Comet introduces homepage privacy widget and local data controls
Perplexity has introduced Privacy Snapshot for its AI browser, Comet, adding a homepage widget that centralizes privacy controls. The new panel lets users block tasks on specific websites, turn off the Assistant’s web actions, and review how their data is used, with ad and tracker blocking enabled by default. Existing protections like Safe Browsing, a local password manager, and regular security updates remain active. Sensitive queries are automatically deleted after 30 days, and users can manually remove accounts or uploaded data at any time.
Privacy Snapshot allows adjustments directly from the start page, including permissions for browsing history, open tabs, and site access. Comet uses a hybrid compute model that keeps credentials and similar data stored locally while sending only minimal context to Perplexity servers when needed.
The update responds to early user feedback calling for stronger protection against agentic browsing and prompt-injection risks, giving users clearer and faster control over their data by bringing all privacy settings together in one place.
