Perplexity Comet Assistant adds advanced multitasking and user permission controls

Perplexity has released a major update for its Comet AI Assistant, improving its ability to multitask across browser tabs and apps. The assistant can now perform actions simultaneously, handling research, data entry, and cross-referencing in parallel. It is designed for more complex workflows, such as comparing flight prices across multiple websites or managing multi-step online tasks that previously required user oversight.

The update introduces a permission system that requires explicit user approval before Comet interacts directly with web pages, clicks links, fills forms, or extracts data. Once permission is granted for a specific interaction, Comet remembers that choice for the rest of the task, reducing interruptions while keeping control in the user’s hands.

Comet also gains better contextual understanding, allowing it to maintain focus across longer and more complex operations. Perplexity reports a 23% improvement in successful task completion, with the assistant now able to complete background actions like collecting data from online portals and compiling organized summaries.
