OpenMW 0.50.0 updates gamepad controls, expands Lua scripting, and adds Polish support

OpenMW 0.50.0 has been released introducing a major update to the open-source Morrowind engine, featuring a complete overhaul of gamepad controls and expanded Lua scripting capabilities. Players can now navigate menus, brew potions, and enchant items entirely with a controller, eliminating the need for mouse emulation. The long-requested quick transfer option also arrives, allowing Alt-click item moves between containers for faster inventory management.

The update adds Polish translations for the interface, launcher, and setup wizard, improving accessibility for Polish-speaking players. AI pathfinding has been refined to keep NPCs from choosing unreachable spots, and sneaking now mirrors the original Morrowind’s timing by caching awareness checks, resulting in more consistent stealth behavior.

Lua scripting gains new power to intercept combat events, manipulate terrain and weather, access player journals, and create custom NPCs. Visual consistency has been improved through fixes to normal and parallax mapping, while gameplay corrections address jail skill progression, spell cycling, and duplicate crime charges. Saved games remain compatible with version 0.49.0 for a safe upgrade.
