Google NotebookLM introduces Deep Research and expands file support
Google is introducing a new Deep Research tool to its AI research assistant NotebookLM, that automates complex online research and generates source grounded reports. It can interpret a user’s query, create a research plan, browse the web, and return detailed findings with recommended articles, papers, or websites.
The tool works in the background so users can keep adding sources while it completes the report. It is accessed through the source panel by selecting Web and choosing Deep Research as the style, with a Fast Research option available for quicker results.
The update also expands file support to Google Sheets, Google Drive file URLs, PDFs stored in Drive, and Microsoft Word documents, enabling tasks like generating spreadsheet summaries and pasting multiple Drive URLs. Users can also create custom video overview styles through a prompt based customization box. All features will roll out within a week.
